Yari Defends Fuel Price Hike, Says Saudi Arabia Has Also Increased Prices

Abdulaziz Yari, Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, has defended the recent increase in petrol prices in Nigeria, saying the country is not alone in experiencing rising fuel costs.

Yari made the remarks on Monday, November 2, 2026, during the APC presidential campaign rally in Calabar, Cross River State.

He argued that even Saudi Arabia, one of the world’s major oil-producing countries, had increased its fuel prices.

According to him, rising crude oil prices in the international market have contributed to fuel price increases across different countries.

Yari Says Nigeria Cannot Be an Exception

Speaking at the rally, the former Zamfara State governor urged Nigerians not to blame President Bola Tinubu alone for the latest petrol price increase.

He maintained that developments in the international oil market also influence fuel prices and that Nigeria cannot remain unaffected by global changes.

Yari said:

“Nigeria can’t be an exception, there’s fuel price hike in Saudi Arabia. Even Saudi Arabia, which produces more oil than us, has increased fuel prices, so why should Nigeria be different?”

APC Chieftain Urges Nigerians to Be Patient

Yari also argued that petrol prices are influenced by international market conditions and are not determined by the Nigerian government alone.

He appealed to Nigerians to remain patient and support the administration, expressing confidence that the removal of fuel subsidies would deliver long-term benefits.

His comments come amid continued public concerns over the cost of petrol and its impact on transportation, food prices and the general cost of living.

While Yari pointed to international market conditions as a factor behind rising fuel prices, his remarks add to the ongoing debate over the effects of the Federal Government’s fuel subsidy removal and the country’s economic reforms.
