2026 CAF Awards: Super Falcons and Three Nigerians Earn Nominations

Nigeria has secured nominations in three categories at the 2026 CAF Women’s Awards. The nominees include three Nigerian footballers and the Super Falcons.

Edo Queens goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma is shortlisted for Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year. Meanwhile, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Seimeyeha Janet Akekoromowei are nominated for Women’s Young Player of the Year.

The Super Falcons have also earned a nomination for Women’s National Team of the Year. However, no Nigerian player made the shortlist for Women’s Player of the Year.

Uzoma Nominated for Goalkeeper of the Year

Christiana Uzoma, who plays for Edo Queens, is among the nominees for Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year.

She will compete against nine other goalkeepers from across Africa. They include Chloe N’Gazi, Michaely Bihina, Cynthia Konlan, Mercy Sikelo and Fatoumata Karantao.

The remaining nominees are Khadija Er-Rmichi, Adji Ndiaye, Kaylin Swart and Hazel Nali.

Two Nigerians Shortlisted for Young Player Award

Nigeria has two representatives in the Women’s Young Player of the Year category.

Oluwakemi Adegbuyi plays for Robo Queens and the Flamingos. Seimeyeha Janet Akekoromowei is associated with Benfica and Nigeria’s Falconets.

Both players will compete against young talents from other African countries. The nominees include Romaine Gandonou, Maëva Nyanidjo, Grace-Ruth Sery and N’Sira Ouédraogo.

Rose Kadzere, Kautar Azraf, Adji Ndiaye and Winfrida Gerald also made the shortlist.

Super Falcons Nominated for Team Award

The Super Falcons have also been nominated for Women’s National Team of the Year.

The nomination comes after Nigeria’s quarter-final exit at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Despite that setback, the team remains in contention for continental recognition.

Nigeria will compete against nine other national teams. They are Cameroon, Algeria, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Malawi, Mali, Morocco and South Africa.

No Nigerian Player Shortlisted for Top Individual Award

Although Nigeria earned nominations in three categories, no Nigerian player made the Women’s Player of the Year shortlist.

This means the country will not have a contender for the top individual women’s award this year. Nevertheless, the other nominations give Nigeria several opportunities to win recognition.

The final results will determine whether the Super Falcons and the three Nigerian nominees can turn their nominations into awards.
