Transfer: Man United Face Losing JJ Gabriel to Real Madrid
Manchester United could lose teenage forward JJ Gabriel to Real Madrid in the January transfer window.
The Spanish giants have reportedly reached a verbal agreement in principle with the 16-year-old over a potential move.
However, the transfer is not yet complete. Reports indicate that formal talks between the clubs have not taken place.
According to reports, Real Madrid are confident of securing the youngster’s signature ahead of other interested European clubs.
JJ Gabriel Wants to Leave Manchester United
Gabriel’s future at Old Trafford has been uncertain since September.
The teenager reportedly asked Manchester United to end his registration with the club. He has not returned to training since making that request.
He has also been training individually in Spain while considering his next move.
Gabriel attracted attention after impressive performances in Manchester United’s youth teams.
He scored a hat-trick on his UEFA Youth League debut against Sabah in September. He also featured for the senior team during their pre-season tour.
The youngster had been tipped to make his competitive first-team debut before his situation at the club changed.
Real Madrid Face Competition From European Clubs
Real Madrid are not the only club interested in signing Gabriel.
Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with the forward.
However, reports suggest that Madrid have moved ahead of their rivals in the race.
Sky Sports reports that Gabriel has reached a verbal agreement with the Spanish club. The proposed move could happen in January 2027.
His eligibility for a European Union passport is also relevant to a possible move abroad before turning 18.
Manchester United Could Consider Legal Action
Despite the reported agreement, Gabriel remains registered with Manchester United.
The Guardian reports that Real Madrid are exploring a route to sign the teenager under FIFA regulations relating to young players with European Union passports.
Manchester United could consider legal action if they believe any transfer rules have been broken.
The club would also be entitled to compensation if Gabriel leaves.
For now, the teenager’s future remains unresolved. Manchester United, Real Madrid and the player’s representatives still have important matters to settle before any transfer can be confirmed.
