Ballon d’Or 2026: Lamine Yamal’s Father Questions Spain’s Vote Over Mbappé

Ballon d’Or 2026: Lamine Yamal’s Father Questions Spain’s Vote Over Mbappé
Mounir Nasraoui, father of Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal, has criticised Spain’s voting in the 2026 Ballon d’Or awards.
He questioned why Kylian Mbappé finished ahead of his son in the final rankings. Nasraoui suggested that Mbappé’s connection with Real Madrid may have influenced some Spanish voters.
Yamal finished third with 881 points. Meanwhile, Mbappé secured second place with 1,027 points.
Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane won the award after receiving 1,055 points. He also became the first Englishman to win the Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen in 2001. <Cite refs={[“turn296558search0″,”turn296558search8”]}/>
Yamal’s Father Questions Spanish Voting
Nasraoui expressed his disappointment during an interview with football journalist Jota Jordi on YouTube.
He questioned the decision of those who voted for Mbappé ahead of his son. He also said he would like to meet some of the voters and discuss their choices.
“I wish one day to see on screen one of those who voted for Mbappé, and I would like to speak with him, and you too, my friend, one of Mbappé’s fans,” Nasraoui said.
He also suggested that some voters allowed club loyalty to influence their decisions.
Nasraoui Accuses Voters of Favouring Real Madrid
The Barcelona youngster’s father further criticised what he described as a voting culture that favours players based on their clubs.
He argued that the Ballon d’Or should recognise individual performances rather than reward a player’s team.
“This thing only happens here in Spain. If the best player in the world plays for Real Madrid, then vote for the national team! I’m not saying it’s an award for a player and not for a team. We are in the twenty-first century, man!” he added.
His comments have added another chapter to the debate surrounding the 2026 Ballon d’Or results.
However, his claims remain his personal opinion. They do not establish that the Spanish voting process was manipulated. <Cite refs={[“turn906639view0″,”turn296558search9”]}/>
Lamine Yamal Reacts to Third-Place Finish
Unlike his father, Yamal responded calmly to the outcome.
The Barcelona forward congratulated the winners after finishing third in the voting. He also expressed confidence that he would eventually win the Ballon d’Or.
Yamal had another reason to celebrate at the ceremony. He collected his third consecutive Kopa Trophy, an award recognising the world’s best young footballer.
He also suggested that Barcelona teammate Pau Cubarsí deserved the main award.
Despite missing out on the top prize, Yamal has shifted his attention back to football. His immediate focus remains helping Barcelona achieve success.
Harry Kane Wins 2026 Ballon d’Or
Kane claimed the 2026 award ahead of Mbappé and Yamal.
The Bayern Munich striker received 1,055 points, while Mbappé finished with 1,027. Yamal followed in third place with 881 points.
The ceremony took place at the London Palladium on October 26, 2026.
Yamal’s third-place finish means he has missed out on the main award for the second consecutive year. However, his latest Kopa Trophy provides further recognition of his performances.
