Man United Suffer Injury Blow as Carlos Baleba Picks Up Hamstring Problem Against Roma
Manchester United have suffered a potential injury setback after midfielder Carlos Baleba picked up a hamstring problem during their 3–2 victory over Roma.
The Cameroon international was forced off early in the second half of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League encounter at Old Trafford.
The injury comes just days before United’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa.
Baleba Forced Off Against Roma
Baleba started alongside Kobbie Mainoo in midfield for the first time during the match.
However, he was unable to complete the game after suffering the injury shortly after the restart. He was subsequently replaced by Youri Tielemans in the 51st minute.
Manchester United later confirmed that the midfielder had sustained a hamstring injury. The club also said it would provide further information when available.
Carrick Gives Injury Update
United manager Michael Carrick admitted that he was concerned about Baleba’s condition.
Speaking after the Roma match, Carrick confirmed that the problem involved the midfielder’s hamstring.
“We’ll have to assess what that looks like but, initially, it doesn’t look great,” the manager said.
Carrick also praised Tielemans for his performance after coming on as a substitute.
He highlighted the Belgian’s personality, character and contribution to the team.
Aston Villa Clash in Doubt
Manchester United are scheduled to face Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday.
However, Baleba’s availability for the Premier League fixture remains uncertain. His chances of returning will depend on the results of further medical assessments.
Meanwhile, Tielemans could come into contention for a starting role after making a positive impact against Roma.
United will hope Baleba’s injury is not serious, especially as the team prepares for another important league fixture.
